Look Straight Ahead…

Greetings fellow journey men and women. I initially planned to create a post titled, “Reflections of 2014.” However, something within me has dissuaded me from doing so, and pointed me in a different direction. Everything that I kept reading focused on looking ahead, and not behind. Though I experienced a number of victories in 2014, something within me kept saying, “that’s nice, but look straight ahead.” When I do quickly glance back, I can truly say that 2014 was the warm up year – one built primarily on preparation. I feel very strongly in my soul that 2015 will be actual – game time. This without a doubt requires a fresh perspective. Therefore, proper plans are needed for the coming months. It’s a new year, month, season and hour, so what better time than now to set the new plans in motion. I personally find great value in establishing goals on a quarterly basis. Breaking up my annual list each year into 4 parts, forces me to better establish the blueprint to aid in reaching my intended goals. Its a tremendous encouragement to walk through the year checking off (on paper) the obtained accomplishments as the days, weeks and months go by. The prior year was an incredible stepping stone for a greater platform, and I’m so thankful for every opportunity that was afforded to me, and for every individual that played a part in getting me to this point. No- it wasn’t all pretty, so don’t even think that for one moment, but it typically isn’t when you’re climbing up the backside of a mountain. Despite the uphill battles that accompanied the prior wins, I’m still ecstatic about the next 12 months.

Let’s take this journey together!!

Start now. Of course it’s a little scarey, and who can really say what the unknown holds…but one thing we can all agree upon, is that if you do nothing, or that which you’ve previously done, then it’s safe to say that one can expect the same result, or nothing at all. Look at it this way, the person who at least tried out and actually makes the team has a chance of getting in the game. If you never try out, then you’re agreeing to just be a spectator. There is no possible way of making a game winning 3 point shot from the stands, regardless of how much you practiced. Your name isn’t on the roster, and you’re not part of the squad. BUT..Don’t fret my faithful followers, there is still time to get the gears in motion. If you haven’t completed your first quarter goals, take the necessary steps today… NOW!!! Grab a large sheet of paper if you don’t keep a notebook or journal, and divide into four quadrants. Begin to pencil in some goals in the first box. Don’t stop there, go on to devise goals for the entire year, and fill in the remaining boxes. Creating a draft of some sort is not only an effective way to chart the manifestation of the fruits of your labor, but it will also serve as an encouragement on those tough days to keep pressing through. Why? Because you’ll be able to look back at your highlighted accomplishments and see your progression, and know that it’s worth it! You can do this!!! If you need some help sorting through ideas, reach out to a mentor or friend for some assistance…or even me!! There is tremendous value in seeking out counsel to gain insight from trusted colleagues and/or friends. There is wisdom in counsel, and its a blessing and joy to journey through life with those you value and love the most. Happy New Year to you all, and may it prove to be your most productive and fruitful year yet!

Proverbs 12:15 – The way of a fool [is] right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel [is] wise.

Looking straight ahead, driving “through” the midwest!
